There are many books on health and fitness.   Many of my favorites center around Calorie Restriction, whole foods diets, etc. 

Most recently my favorite fitness book is Born to Run by Christopher McDougall.   Talk about a great story.  It is 80% great story about the Taramarah Tribe and how they beat the pants off of our best ultra-marathoners. 20% is full of anectdotal evidence that we were born to run... and run barefoot.   Since then I have bought it hook line and sinker.  I run on Merrill barefoot shoes and prefer trail running again.   This is a must read... and a fast read.
